When did you realize you were really in labor?
On June 29th, 2016 at 3:40 (ish) am I woke up and was unable to go back to sleep because I was having contractions about every 5 minutes. I realized it was real labor when I couldn't sleep through it.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Believing that I was capable of pushing through the pain and the final steps of delivery.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Honestly, I didn't plan on natural childbirth 100% so I wasn't totally prepared for the pain (I had an epidural with my first) but I took care of myself so I was healthy and I focused on my doctor's encouragement and the anticipation of meeting my baby to get me through.

What surprised you about your birth?
How fast it was! Labor started at 3:40 am, we got to the hospital just before 5 am, and my son was born at 6:40 am! I was also surprised that I actually made it through natural childbirth with only one small tear and I felt great after.

Believe in you and your body. You can do this! I didn't think I could and I was terrified - but I did it! Slow down your breathing, and focus on pushing through the pain. I felt great afterwards and if I have more babies I would definitely go natural again :)

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Staying in a position that was (relatively) comfortable, maintaining eye contact with my amazing doctor, and focusing on the goal - safe delivery and meeting my baby boy Hudson.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
Traditional hospital position - laying on my back, holding my legs, and my feet in stirrups.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I was so relieved that the pain was over and that I was holding him. I was so happy he was here and healthy. I have been blessed with healthy pregnancies, fast deliveries, and two perfect boys so I was beyond grateful.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
I would say to believe in you and your body. You can do this! I didn't think I could and I was terrified - but I did it! Slow down your breathing, and focus on pushing through the pain. I felt great afterwards and if I have more babies I would definitely go natural again :)
