When did you realize you were really in labor?
I was induced at 41 weeks and when I first arrived at the hospital I was already 5 cm. oddly, I started contracting regularly the minute they put me on the monitor and they never had to give me pitocin. My Dr. broke my water soon after and the contractions became much stronger. And that's when I knew I was really laboring.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I practiced a lot of relaxation techniques during pregnancy and found the labor to be very manageable up until I became completely dilated, and then I felt out of control. I started pushing because it was the only thing that helped and the nurse and my husband ended up catching our baby because I couldn't quit pushing and the doctor and other hospital staff couldn't make it there in time.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Learn how to relax: deep breathing, listening to good music, learning to embrace the contractions and "ride the waves" in order to bring my baby down. I read the birth stories in Ina May's "Guide to childbirth" before each delivery.

What surprised you about your birth?
Im surprised it was so quick and that my doctor didn't make it. I had prayed for a special birth because this may be our last and God answered my prayer!
