When did you realize you were really in labor?
I was induced by doctors orders, so I would say it became real very quickly after they started the pitocin.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Pitocin contractions were much more intense and nonstop than with my first delivery which happened with no assistance. There was very little break between them and I really struggled to get through them.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I read the book 'Husband Coached Childbirth' which reaffirmed my decision to deliver with as few interventions as possible.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised at how very quickly I progressed once I reached 5 cm and that I managed to be induced and still avoid any pain meds or an epidural. I kept saying I couldn't do it during labor but in the end I did and I'm very proud of myself.

It was amazing to finally meet the little one that I had been loving and keeping safe for so long.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
I really struggled with finding any pain relief this time around. With my first birth I found a focal point in the room and tried to relax during contractions reminding myself that it would pass. This time around I was not able to relax as it felt like there was no break between contractions at all.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I started on all fours, and They had me lying on the bed with my legs up to deliver. I was not very coherent at that point as things happened incredibly fast and just did as they asked me.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was a relief to know that she was here and safe as her heart rate kept getting dangerously low. It was amazing to finally meet the little one that I had been loving and keeping safe for so long.
