Yoga, Meditation and Reciting Affirmations Helped Sabrina During Her Unassisted Home Water Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    10 minutes after I ate these labor cookies. I started to feel extremely strong contractions. They weren't regular but they were very strong. Around 10:30 pm they were 10 mins apart so I meditated so I could fall asleep and woke up 3 hours later to contractions 3 mins apart.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    This was baby #4 and #3 that was natural so I was used to it. But the most challenging thing about going natural is finding the best way to take the pressure off of your bum and belly to reduce pain/pressure.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    Yoga, meditation, reciting affirmations, resting, stretching in the tub.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    It went so quickly! I got in the pool at 2:20 am and baby came at 2:38 am.

  • It felt surreal! I was proud that I was able to deliver her unassisted.(Without a doctor or midwife) My husband and I planned an unassisted home water birth.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Deep breathing, being in the pool on my hands and knees and meditation.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    I ended up delivering on my hands and knees.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    It felt surreal! I was proud that I was able to deliver her unassisted.(Without a doctor or midwife) My husband and I planned an unassisted home water birth.
