When did you realize you were really in labor?
Unfortunately my BP spiked on week 40 and I had to be induced. After trying everything else, I felt so defeated going into labor and I was so disappointed. But, my midwife used less than half the amount of pitocin than they normally do, and I was off. Once my body took over, they were able to stop the pitocin so things could happen naturally.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
This was our 4th baby and I had to have an emergency c section with our 3rd. The first two were natural. So this one was a VBAC and for me, the most challenging thing was getting my mind right and believing I could do it. I felt so accomplished when it was all over!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Writing out positive affirmations and scriptures helped me prepare. Also having a plan and goal shared with my husband so if this happens, use this... Making sure we were on the same page and him & my midwife knowing what I wanted.

What surprised you about your birth?
How much pushing hurt! LOL with my first two I remember thinking how relieved it felt to push but this time it hurt. I only pushed through 3 contractions and he was out, so thankful for that. I was also surprised that the only position that felt good to me at the end was laying down, the one position I was sure I wouldn't be in when planning my birth.

My mind being free and relaxing my body and breathing helped me the most, also changing positions, birth ball, walking and sitting all helped until the end.

What position did you end up delivering in?
Half sitting/laying in bed. The bed kinda turned into a chair.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I was so relieved I had a successful vbac. He was like a big trophy! They immediately laid him on my tummy the second he was out. I was so glad to have him on me.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Don't let your mind get the best of you. It plays a huge part in how things go and don't give up! You can do it, your body was made for this!
