When did you realize you were really in labor?
I woke up and turned over and felt my water break. Contractions started about 5-10 minutes later and I realized that labor was beginning.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I had a natural birth with my first one and it was really hard. My biggest challenge was to not let that experience make me worry about this second labor.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I took the mama natural birth course! It was so helpful! I thought I was prepared for the first birth but I learned so many things from Maura and Genievive! I also hired a doula, which I didn't end up using bc I had the baby before she arrived. But I felt prepared!

What surprised you about your birth?
You could not have told me that a birth could happen that fast or be that easy. I would not have believed you! My first birth was 10 hours with 2 hours of pushing. This birth was less then two hours from me waking up from my water breaking to delivering the baby. It was so fast that my midwife didn't even make it in time! And she only lives 6 minutes away!
I was also surprised by the 'fetal ejection reflex'. I pushed for two hours with my first birth but never felt an actual urge to push. This time it was like my body was pushing the baby out completely out of my control.

Unbelievable! She was wide eyed and pink and perfect! I couldn't believe she came so quick! My husband and I were the first two people to touch her and welcome her into the world.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
I hummed. I didn't make any noise with the first birth but with this one I hummed through the contractions. These contractions were strong but not overwhelmingly painful like the first time.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
Hands and knees. My body started pushing before the midwife arrived. I had no control over it. My husband called her back and she said to get on my hands and knees.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Unbelievable! She was wide eyed and pink and perfect! I couldn't believe she came so quick! My husband and I were the first two people to touch her and welcome her into the world.

How did the Mama Natural Birth Class help you in your childbirth?
It taught me so many things! I thoroughly enjoyed it! I purchased it at the beginning of my pregnancy so I had watched each lesson more than once. And I got new things out of it each time!
