When did you realize you were really in labor?
I never went into labor this time! We had a wonderful, planned c-section.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
While my story differs from the mamas who go med free, everything about my birth was just as empowering and special as theirs. The most challenging part was preparing for the birth. While I had done it before, each time is different.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
The most helpful thing I did to prepare was listen to other women's testimonials and have many conversations with God. Trusting Him was the best preparation!

What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised at how amazingly glorious it was. My medical team made sure my husband and I were kept aware of everything. My husband was able to participate as much as he wanted short of pulling little miss out.

There is nothing comparable to holding your child for the first time. Meeting this tiny person who you've grown and loved for so long and feeling the warmth of their sweet skin. It's euphoric.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Many things are changing in the world of c-sections! Aside from my spinal, the only medications I was given was Tylenol and Zofran. Doctors are finding that narcotics are not as helpful as once thought.

What position did you end up delivering in?
On my back, but able to freely move as I needed.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
There is nothing comparable to holding your child for the first time. Meeting this tiny person who you've grown and loved for so long and feeling the warmth of their sweet skin. It's euphoric.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Don't be afraid going into a c-section! Times are changing, folks! The biggest problem is people feel cheated or forced into c-sections, but YOU pick your provider. Make sure you find one who believes in the same things you do. The thoughts of these sterile, harsh c-sections are becoming a thing of the past. There's no reason to not have the closest thing to a natural c-section as possible.
