When did you realize you were really in labor?
I went through 3 weeks of prodromal labor contractions. But then, after dinner one night, my contractions were very strong and went from 7-8 min apart to coming every 2-3 min in less than an hour. I had no gradual labor prior earlier that day.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I found gathering the remaining few things I needed to take to the hospital in a timely fashion between contractions quite challenging!
Keeping my mindset on not getting an epidural was also a challenge.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Prenatal massages every 2-4 weeks, affirmations; "this birth is easy for me and my baby" was my favorite, breathing exercises, telling myself I could do anything for a minute to get through contractions, baby positioning exercises.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
How quick it went! I planned to labor in my tub at home before going to the hospital, but I didn't even have time to fill the tub! And that using nitrous helped me stay focused as opposed to being disconnected like I thought would happen.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
I stayed on my hands and knees with my head down hugging pillows on the way to the hospital, having my friend do massage, acupressure and energy work during labor and delivery, listening to mantras, focusing on my breathing and NITROUS!
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Absolutely amazing! I was so happy that we accomplished a natural birth!
-
What did you name your baby, and why?
Mira Fae , Mira is short for Miracle since she was conceived 4 months post-vasectomy, Fae means fairy and is my spiritual name that was given to me.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Focus on your breathing! Be confident that you can do anything for a minute during contractions!
