What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
The most helpful thing I did was read! I read as much as I could on natural childbirth, the benefits and what to anticipate. I spoke about my desires openly and made it clear to others that I would like their support in my decision to go natural. I kept repeating to myself "my body is meant to do this" "I am doing a wonderful thing for my baby and I right now."

What surprised you about your birth?
The most surprising thing was how fast things progressed for me compared to my first childbirth. I was induced the first time and it was the typical hospital birth. This time it was my way, it was quick!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
The whirlpool tub helped so much as well as constant movement! Breathing also helped me get through my contractions more than I ever thought it would. My husband stepped up and helped me, he had me match his breathing, kept eye contact and was there for every step and every breath. I was so amazed at how he was during the labor and delivery. I felt like we have become closer as a couple through that experience.

What position did you end up delivering in?
I ended up on my back. I started pushing while standing and was told to lay down. I didn't have time to tell them I didn't want to be on my back, it all happened so fast!

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It felt amazing! She came out and I immediately started taking my gown off to get her on my chest! She was quick to nurse and she layed there for over an hour. It was amazing!
