24 Week Old Baby Development

Baby might be sitting up and getting teeth—but how are your pearly whites doing?

  • 24 Week Old Baby Milestones 👶

Now that your little one is growing and maturing in the gross motor department, it may be around this time that you begin to notice him propping his body up, preparing to sit with little to no support. Continue to encourage this developmental milestone by providing plenty of space for him to move his body. Allow him as much floor time as possible—this allows him to figure out the large muscles in his arms and legs, preparing him for the sitting position. For more information, check out this article on when babies sit up, plus what comes next!

Baby is also working hard on the small muscles in his hands and fingers (fine motor skills!). You may notice that he tries to hold his own bottle during feedings. He may even try to manipulate utensils during meal times. In the upcoming weeks, you’ll also notice his pincer grasp developing, using his pointer finger and thumb to grasp small items (such as finger foods). Continue to provide open-ended materials for him to explore and grasp with his hands and fingers. Fine motor development generally matures later than gross motor development, so sit back, observe, and give him time to explore and discover!

  • You at 24 Weeks Postpartum 👩

Around this time, you may want to start thinking about checking in with your dentist. After all, pregnancy (and all of those hormones that come along with it!) can do a number on your pearly whites.

During pregnancy, the hormones that are released can increase your risk of developing gum disease. Because of this, it’s important to keep up with your dentist during pregnancy and the postpartum period! Schedule a little dental check in to make sure your mouth is in good shape. And, in the meantime, here are some tips for keeping your dental care in tip-top shape:

    • Avoid sugary snacks to prevent tooth decay
    • Keep dental cleanings a priority
    • Check out this article on what everyone should know about toothpaste
    • Learn how activated charcoal can help make your teeth sparkle

It’s easy to get caught up in the business of new mama life, but it is important to nourish your body from the inside out—and dental hygiene is no exception! Taking care of yourself is also a great way to lead by example, as your little one grows and observes your daily habits and rituals. A clean, healthy smile for the whole family!

It’s Amazing What a Cookie Can Do!

Baby Week to Week 24 Mama Natural

Ashley is awfully proud of herself.

In the beginning, you yearn for those important milestones—smiling, laughing, sitting, crawling, and eventually walking. But in those first weeks, when it seems like all baby does is sleep, eat, and soil their diaper, it feels like you’ll be waiting an eternity for those things to happen.

Then, all of the sudden, it happens. And when baby is on the move? Well, that poses a whole new set of challenges!

We have a rule in our house: No sugar until after baby’s first birthday. But our daughter Ashley, had other plans. When she was just learning to crawl, we were eating cookies and dropped a piece on the ground. That was all the motivation little Ashley needed to get moving—she zoomed over, picked up the cookie piece before we could even blink, and popped it right in her mouth. From that day on, it was go-go-go.
