20 Week Old Baby Development

Woo—mama needs a break! How to bust stress. Plus, have you thought about infant allergies yet?

  • 20 Week Old Baby Milestones 👶

You’re not quite there yet, mama. For now, baby is still thriving on your milk—but we’re getting close to that 6 month mark (hooray!). That means it’s time to start thinking about what you want to introduce as her first solid foods.

Though it’s a fun new stage, holding off on all solids until six months of age is important for your child’s long-term health, as well as their immune system. (You can learn more about the benefits of waiting here.)

That said, there are also new studies that suggest introducing allergenic foods early reduces your child’s risk of developing food allergies by up to 80 percent! As you think about what will be on baby’s menu, don’t forget to include things like nuts, eggs, and cow’s milk.

I recommend a product called Ready, Set, Food!, which gives parents the option to add the most common allergenic foods (eggs, nuts, and milk) to breast milk or formula in a safe and effective way, even if baby isn’t quite ready for solids.

Here are some other tips to think about when introducing solid foods for the first time:

This is a new and exciting chapter you and your little one are about to embark on. It’s important to educate yourself on what foods are best to introduce first—and what foods you may want to avoid. Remember to introduce new foods slowly, giving her time to develop a taste for each individual flavor. Yum!

  • You at 20 Weeks Postpartum 👩

Whether you’re a mama who works full time, part time, or you’re a stay-at-home mama, life can get pretty chaotic and stressful at times. So how do you deal with the stresses of work life, mom life, and your romantic life? We’re here to tell you that while it may not always be a walk in the park, there are some things you can do to help ease some of the stressors.

    • Set a schedule for your day: Try to be as specific as possible (allowing for flexibility of course!). Check out this summer schedule I created for our days at home.
    • Find a babysitter: Whether it’s a family member, close friend, or a trusted hiree. it’s important to have an extra pair of hands on deck for date night or any other times you may need to get away.
    • Vocalize your needs: Remember to ask for help and speak up when the going gets tough and you need a little extra support!
    • Just breathe: Sometimes we all need to take a deep breath and step back for a second. Life can get crazy, but when you take even a few seconds to remove yourself and reflect on all that is amazing in your life, it can work wonders (and relieve some of that stress!).

Some of these tips may seem small and simple, but when put into action, they can work like magic! We know that mama life can be overwhelming at times. It’s important to listen to your body and acknowledge the hardships as they come. Keep your “no stress/low stress” toolbox handy, so you know how to fight those battles as they arise!

Being a Stay-at-Home Mom Is Hard!

Baby Week to Week 20 Mama Natural

Sarah’s three kids keep her very busy.

Have you ever wondered how you could do so much in one day, but still feel like you didn’t accomplish anything? That’s a little what being a stay-at-home mom feels like.

Take the day my two sons (ages five and two) got the stomach virus and my baby girl refused to nap, for example. I felt like I needed to clone myself just to breastfeed my daughter, care for my sons, and keep the germs contained. I had never felt so busy or so overwhelmed—but I never even left the house.

It’s such a rewarding job, but days like that can be lonely—especially during the short, dark, cold winter days. Sometimes I don’t get to leave the house for an entire week due to inclement weather and an abundance of germs.

In these times, my phone is my lifeline. It connects me to other mama friends going through the same thing. It connects me to my husband who can guide me through. And in those low moments, every little bit of socialization gives me hope and puts everything into perspective—this phase will quickly pass by, as our children grow up so fast! I know I’ll miss it one day.
