Not only do I know the meaning of my name but the reasoning I got the spelling of my name is for different reasons! I was the last of my parents 3 kids, my dad wanted a Jr. & my mom wanted to name me after the Beach Boys song BarbarAnn… So, on February 27, 1975 my Aunt stepped in and said take Ter from my dad’s name & ra from my mom’s name & you get Terra, you get “your love”! That simple definition there, makes it the BEST NAME IN THE WORLD! Also, I take great pride in informing individuals that T.A.R.A is pronounced TARaaaaa. Lol. Type in your phone & press the button to HEAR the name spoken. Lol. Reply Terra Feb 27 at 12:17 pm I am named Terra I was born in Queens NY in 1975, I went to school with many Tara’s but never met another Terra until the internet came about. My Grandmother was born in Ireland and was a very proud woman she thought that all her grandchildren should have Irish names. I am the first born of my younger siblings Erin and Brendan. My name was supposed to be Tara but my mom was from the Midwest and had an accent and pronounced my name Terra and she couldn’t say Tara. Well my dad said you know what? Ignore my mother and just spell it like you say it. So that is how I got the name Terra. Funny story about my middle name… when my mom and her sister were young growing up in the Midwest they promised to name their first child’s middle name after eachother. My mom’s name was Kathleen and her younger sister Carol was the one to have a baby girl first. She was named Tammy Kathleen. My mom knew that after she married my father she could not keep her promise to her sister Carol, because my mother married Thomas Carroll therefore I would have been Terra Carol Carroll. My mother and my Aunt Carol had went to school with a Henry Henry and the kids were not so nice to him, so they all agreed that I would take my Aunt’s middle name of Jean. On December 6th 1975 I became Terra Jean Carroll. My Irish grandmother was not very happy with me being named after dirt, she said lol. But exactly 3 years later on my 3rd birthday on December 6, 1978 we were blessed with my sister Erin Kathleen and you can’t get too much more Irish than Erin. And all was good then they had Brendan Peter and completed the family with a boy taking on our Grandfather’s name as his middle name, which made grandma very happy. I grew up and was teased about my name because it was so different but I loved it I felt very proud. I was very special and as unique as my name and I wouldn’t trade it for any other name. Reply Terra Jun 26 at 6:01 pm I love my name! I was born in 1976, during peak of the popularity of the name, according to the graph above. I only knew 1 other Terra growing up who actually spelled her name Terra. I knew about 2-3 others who spelled it Tara. People, especially from the North East coast pronounce my name TAora with the emphasis on the “a” sound at the beginning, or TARoa like TAR which annoys me because my name isn’t spelled that way. It’s definitely fun to see my spelling, Terra popping up everywhere these days. There are stores, restaurants, health foods, essential oils, business and even crypto coin even called Terra. I’ve always been told my name is beautiful and unique. Reply Terra Jun 26 at 6:03 pm I didn’t mean for toy comment above to have typos in the spelling of Tara ..I was using a bullet symbol and it translated that to an “o” Reply Terra Cobb Mar 29 at 9:02 pm I’m also a Terra!!! I absolutely love my name and love even more so the unique spelling! My Daddy owned a landscaping company and spelled it Terra after Earth. His company was Terra Verde , Green Earth. I’m also born in 1976!!! Cheers to the few but precious Terra’s out there! Reply Terra Cobb Mar 29 at 9:13 pm I was also born in 1976!!! I also had not seen another Terra spelled the same until the internet. I also HATE when my name is pronounced TARA with the short A, like Apple. A friend recently asked if that really bothered me, I said YES!! It’s Terra. Like “TERRIBLE” !! Lol Or Terrific! There is not an A..Tara. So it’s pronounced differently and correctly TERRA! I love my name and everyone that i have to tell my name (reservations, on the phone, etc) Always says how beautiful my name is. My middle name is Rae, Terra Rae…light on Esrth!! Love my name!!
