When did you realize you were really in labor?
It was a Sunday night around 8pm. James was born Monday at 7:01pm.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
This time around going natural was hard because I had to go to the hospital for financial reasons. I had previously had #2 at a birth center. I had Strep B, therefore I had an IV of penicillin which I believe gave me awful chills. Contractions were extremely close together for 7 hours! But when the time came to push, they were very supportive and I positioned myself the way I wanted, 6 or 7 pushes and he was out!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
PRAY!!!
-
What surprised you about your birth?
The intensity of my labor! My 2nd daughter was also natural, a very easy labor, long but nothing like the intense contractions of this one.

Pray for your labor and delivery every single day. You WILL receive your desires!
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Breathing through and staying focused. Remembering that birth is one day, taking it moment by moment.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
On a hospital bed, on all 4's. Imagine the view! Ha!!
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Incredible! The pain is completely washed away the instant he comes out and is placed on my chest!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Stand your ground in the hospital! I think overall nurses want to meet your needs. Don't rely on them though, the power of birth is within you! They are assisting you, not birthing for you.
'Supernatural Childbirth' by Jackie Mize is a wonderful resource to help you understand the power of prayer and the promises of God for conception and delivery.
