Naomi Name Meaning

A Biblical sweetheart with a distinct style, little Naomi is a force to be reckoned with. Her exotic sound helps her stand apart on the charts, giving her considerable leverage over other names.

Appearing in the Old Testament as the wife of Elimelech, Naomi is a woman that overcame great adversity during her life journey in the Book of Ruth. She’s a less common Biblical pick than Sarah or Hannah, but has just as much beauty to her.

Her gentle meaning of “pleasantness” is perfect for a little lady, a serene pick that’s packed with sweetness. She’s delicate enough for a young girl, yet mature enough for a woman. There aren’t many obvious nickname picks for those hoping to avoid them, but Noni and Nay are two options if you’re looking for one.

Naomi may have vintage roots, but she works well among today’s modern picks like Aurora and Ariana. She’s blessed with some serious style points thanks to her association with supermodel Naomi Campbell and has a posh feel about her that’s hard to miss.

Little Naomi is a trendsetter, one who always tries the latest fashions without fear. She loves to play dress up with her friends and is always the first one to strut her stuff. With her standout name, she’s sure to go places far and wide.

  1. I wanted a name that was easy to spell and pronounce and could easily transfer to other languages if needed. I also wanted it to be common enough to be familiar and seem age appropriate but to not be so common that she would meet other girls with the same name everywhere. Meaning is also important to me, and I think “pleasant” is certainly a good quality to be known but in life.

  2. It’s a very pretty name! I’ve loved it since I first heard it. Also love that it has a touch of Asian influence on the name, but simple enough for people to pronounce.

  3. Naomi means pleasant and gentle. It is a Hebrew name and at the same time a Japanese name. We pray that she will be a gentle godly daughter of God.

  4. God gave us her name ? it means beautiful and her middle name is Ruth meaning “compassionate friend”.

  5. My name is Ruth and me and my husband named our daughter Naomi because I think it’s a cute name. It’s also a biblical name. Naomi of the bible became a widow and wanted to travel back to her homeland. Her daughter in law Ruth who was a moabitess who became a widow as well must have looked up to her, because she wanted to travel with Naomi to a place that was foreign to her, And wanted her God to be her own God too. So Naomis life must have shown the touch of God in her life that Ruth desired to have as well.
We have two more daughters, their names are Esther ( my favourite name, she was a beautiful and brave queen in the bible)
and Mabel (means lovable, and she really can add a loving energy to every room.)
and a son named Caleb. (Caleb in the bible was a man of great faith. Him and Joshua both and as a result they were allowed by God to see the promised land.)

  6. We love the name Naomi. We search for Saint names and Biblical names, Irish and Polish names, and we came upon Naomi. Naomi was a mother in the Old Testament, who’s daughter in law, Ruth, helped pave the way for Jesus birth. Naomi means pleasant, and for baby number 6, I could think of no better way to describe this addition to the family. We had only one girl and now we finally have another! We are overjoyed, even the boys! We paired this name with a family/Saint name of Rose. So, we have Naomi Rose.

  7. I chose the name Naomi because I wanted something unique, but pretty and easy to pronounce. I also chose Naomi due to its meaning of “pleasantness”. I believe that names carry certain traits and it rings true. She has been so sweet and everyone says so.

  8. Naomi Ruth was my maternal grandmothers name, We called her Grammie Ruth and knew I wanted to carry on a part of her name with my daughter. Once diving deeper into the meaning of her name I found out the origin is from Japan and means sweet and beautiful.

  9. I chose her name as it represents faithfulness and patience.

  10. It’s a beautiful name with a rich biblical heritage. Unique enough that our daughter won’t be surrounded by others with the same name. My two requirements were 1) easy to pronounce and 2) easy to spell. I didn’t want her to spend her life correcting others about her name.

  11. Naomi is a biblical name from the story of the book of Ruth.
She was the mother in law of Ruth the Moabit.

  12. My husband and I wanted to use Bible names and Naomi is the one that we both liked best for a girl. We didn’t know what we were having so we had to pick a boy name too. Now that our little girl is here, Naomi is definitely the perfect name for her. ? In Hebrew, Naomi means pleasantness. Ours is definitely a sweetheart. ?

  13. My daughter’s full name is Naomi Rey. Naomi is a Biblical name I’ve always loved. Not only does it display a strong courageous character in the Bible, but it also means “pleasant”. Rey comes from mine and my husband’s mutual love for Star Wars. Rey is a character we truly enjoyed watching in the “Force Awakens”. We hope our little girl embodies both these women’s courageous, fearless, loving attitude as she grows up. 🙂

  14. We just liked the name! Also, it means “pleasant”, which we thought wouldn’t be a bad thing!

  15. Well, I had to think About What she’d be like when she grows older, And It Finally Rings. A Pleasant Girl.
I had to think of A Good Name Meaning Pleasantness. And There it Came, Naomi. My husband Asher Agreed To that Immediately. Heh, And that Minute She was born, I knew She’d Be a Goddess.

  16. It has a musical sound. I love the combination of vowels -it sounds ancestral to me. I’ve always loved the name since I was a little girl.

  17. Naomi Grace which means God’s Pleasantness!

We prayed for her and God blessed our journey! It just made sense to us!????

  18. We love old fashioned names (she has a sister Audrey and brother Sylas) and it’s also my great grandmother’s name.

  19. We lost a dear friend too early to ALS last year. In March, her ashes were spread in New Zealand by her surviving widower. That day, he saw a black swan that followed him while he spread he ashes along the eater’s edge. That day was also the first day of our 41 week journey. When I discovered we were expecting, I had a soul-warming feeling that we were having a girl. I knew right then that if I was right, her name would be Naomi. After the strong woman who I loved and our friendship that I deeply cherished.

  20. We loved how classic and sweet, yet strong the name Naomi is. It sounds great with our other two children, Adelyn and Joel. The name meaning is sweet and pleasant, and we hope this will be a positive affirmation over her life. We like that it can’t be shortened into a bunch of nicknames, as well! And Naomi is a strong, inspirational story in the bible.

  21. I had a hard time choksing a name so I opened my bible and looked through it to see if a name caught my eye. There was and it was Naomi. I love the way it sounds but I hate that people pronounce it different. I am always correcting people.

  22. When we had our first child, Timothy we thought he was a girl before we had the gender reveal ultrasound. Naomi was the ONLY girl’s name that my husband and I could agree upon! We wanted a Biblical name that was lovely but not too common.

  23. I choosed her name cause it was different
I like that her name is different I don’t dislike it at all
    Naomi is smart and beautiful

  24. Naomi is my sisters middle name. It’s unique and pretty and there’s a couple different ways to pronounce it.

  25. It’s a beautiful name that has a none meaning
