Share Your Thoughts 5 Comments Tiffany Jan 15 at 1:15 pm Husband chose the name. It took a while for me to get used to it but I like that it’s a name I never hear. And I slowly fell in love with it Reply Christopher Leif Hamman Sep 13 at 3:34 pm I have always gone by my middle name, Leif. We have always pronounced it “Leef” which may not be the usual pronunciation, but for me it is absolutely 100%correct. Reply Janice Feb 16 at 3:46 am My husband is Swedish and Leif is a very traditional name that has become rare overtime. I am French and I thought the name had a beautiful meaning and sound. Our son is three now and love the name so much! He is strong and sensitive, he is our beloved boy. Reply Alyssa Jul 22 at 1:12 pm I recently moved back to Minnesota with my family where I grew up and I have Scandinavian heritage. My husband is latino, so I thought he for sure wouldn’t go for a Scandinavian name! But the name Leif means “descendant, heir, and beloved” which is perfect, because this boy is the first and may be the only to carry on my husband’s last name. It’s a big deal in the Latin community! Reply Amy May 30 at 11:59 am I fell in love with the name Leif about 4 years ago. I had seriously thought of using Rafe for my last baby boy, but hadn’t. Then I heard Leif and was captivated. It had the same ring to it, but a softer sound. I decided then that someday I would have a Leif. I love the name meaning of My Son! Or My Beloved Son.. depending where you look it up.. I like the connotation of adventuresome explorer. One negative thing.. he has already been called ‘Leaf’ at every Doctor visit. And when we have said his name it gets misunderstood as ‘Life’… Eventually our circle will all pronounce correctly, ‘Layf’ but I will need to resign myself to mispronunciation in public venues I suppose.
