When did you realize you were really in labor?
I finally admitted that I "might" be in labor when I "thought" my water broke. I had been having contractions for 3 hours, but I just didn't feel like they were that bad yet!!

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing about going natural was gaining support from friends and family. No one thought I could do it or could understand why I would want to. They made me all the more determined to have a natural, intervention free birth!!

The most helpful thing I did was read. I read books, blog, and birth stories that encouraged me on my path toward an amazing and natural childbirth experience.

What surprised you about your birth?
It really wasn't that bad! I kept telling my husband that afterward. Of course, it's not the most comfortable thing in the world, but I had mentally prepared myself for much much more!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
I bounced on a stability ball while watching a movie at home for the first 3 hours of my labor. I didn't feel much pain, just pressure. I also was able to use a tub at our hospital, which really helped me relax and let my body do the work.

What position did you end up delivering in?
The "typical" on back position with knees in chest. It's what felt most natural to me in the moment!

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Shocked! I couldn't believe that she was finally here and that I had actually done it!!!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Advocate for yourself!!! If your healthcare provider isn't on the same page, find someone new. You DO have a say in how you birth your baby!
