Hudson Name Meaning

There’s a new cool kid on the block in the form of Hudson. An up-and-coming who’s been basking in recent fame, Hudson is bursting with the style and charm of a seasoned chart pro.

Boyish and wild with his adorable nickname of Hud, Hudson is the ultimate name for a rambunctious youngster. He’s a name of great energy and adventure, the first one to jump into the pool or set out into new territory. He isn’t afraid of the unknown and is always looking for the next thrill.

Hudson fits many of today’s top trends. He’s a surname pick with a posh feel, a less popular pick than Carter or Mason. He also walks the line between being a place pick and a nature find, as he’s the name of the winding Hudson River in New York. He also packs a punch of old-school chic feel, working well with the vintage trend that’s ushered in names like George and Theodore. He also has the trendy -son ending seen in Jackson and Grayson.

Hudson has a distinct sound that’s somehow soft and strong at the same time. He marches to the beat of his own drum of course, the perfect name for a little one that loves to do his own thing. He isn’t ruled by norms and is always seeking to push the limits.

  1. Named after the Hudson River- us being New Yorkers and sailors loving adventure it felt fitting!

  2. Classic, unique, American

  3. Felt like it was a good, strong name that wasn’t too overused!

  4. My husbands father died when he was a toddler and we wanted our first son (just Incase he also ends up being the only boy as well) as a tribute to him. So his middle name is Alan after his father! My husbands family is originally from New Albany NY and they have many fond memories there with their dad and up until the moved. So we chose the Hudson after the Hudson River to have his name come full circle to honor his family. This is the first child to carry on their family name and we just wanted to make it very special for his mom and siblings. We wanted a name that meant something 🙂

  5. a strong but classic name
liked names that ended in “son”
like that it ends in son and he’s our first son
hudson’s is also a hardware shop near us and dads a carpenter so loved it because of that as well ahah

  6. Funny story. I wanted to name Hudson Finn instead but my husband said no way. I loved the way it sounded and it fit my cool kid for sure. The only think I dislike is my family has nicknamed him “Huddy Buddy” and it’s not my favorite.

    • We named my son Hudson Grove, while he’s super little we’ve said Huddy Buddy a few times but mostly during cute talk to him, not in general. I didn’t like it when someone first mentioned it but it grew on me He does get Huds, HUD man and Huddy alone. As he gets older we’ll adjust it

  7. I always loved the name, it sounds so strong. His middle name is Thomas, (My husband’s name,) He has a sister and her name is Zoey, and I think they pair beautifully together. I like how the name rolls off the tongue. If I was to say the one thing a don’t like about it is that it ends in “Son” and I like a lot of names that end in son. Like Grayson, Mason & Wilson.

  8. Hudson is his great grandmothers maiden name. We wanted a family name and felt like this was a unique, strong name. It fits him perfectly! I love that is isn’t common but that it is easy to say and spell.

  9. We moved up to nh from nyc… The Hudson River and many landmarks named after Henry Hudson inspired us!

  10. We wanted a name that started with H that could represent my maiden name. When we found Hudson, it was perfect for that reason and because of the Hudson River- our honeymoon was in New York! So Hudson it was!

  11. Strong and masculine

  12. This name means “strong” and references the missionary Hudson Taylor. We love the way it sounds and it has been a great name for our boy!

  13. Hudson is actually a family name on my husband’s side. This little one is the 3rd(even thought there are more further back the family line.) He has a good solid distinguishing name to grow with him. The only thing we have seen as a challenge is a nickname to call him, since my husband and father in law are all Hudson. My FIL is Randy(their middle name) and husband is Hudson. We like Hud or H, both are very simple and easy for a child to learn and write. We live in the country and have a small gentleman’s farm, Hud kind of fits our lifestyle, but I don’t know if it suits this little boy yet or not.

  14. Mom named him
Dislike middle name ex Best friend

  15. named after missionary to China, Hudson Taylor

  16. I chose Hudson cause i loved seeing it embroidered on stuff i just thought it was a cute name

  17. I wanted a strong name!
