  1. I was adopted at birth. I always knew I was adopted but no information about my birth parents was available. All though my childhood on unto my adult years I never tried to open my closed adoption. I always thought that my birth mother gave me up and obviously wanted or perhaps needed her privacy. I felt it would be horrible to find her and disrupt her life. Each night with my prayers I would ask God to bless her and protect her.

I was about 30 when I became very ill and thought that it might be necessary to open those adoption records. I located the records and spoke to a judge who wanted to know why I wanted to open the records. I explained about my health and he told me that He was looking at the record, which I could have opened but that I would have to hire and attorney. He told me that it contained no medical history at all. I ;et the subject drop. My birth mother did deserve her privacy, after all.

In2027 my state revamped adoption laws and any adoptee could open their record simply because they wanted to. I sent for my noncertified birth certificate hoping to find some health information.

I learned that my birth mother had given me a name. Carmen. As I read this information I can say that the name is most appropriate as my life has been full of challenges. I’ve never once backed down for any of them. I also discovered that she had passed away just 6 months before I located my paperwork. So we never did meet but I take pride in knowing that I honored the adoption commitment. I am sur my mother wears angel’s wings and I have carried and given birth to four of my own children. I am so grateful for her sacrifice.

  2. My mother named me Carmen after reading a book Titled Carmen. The book was about a young girl who was a runaway struggling with a heroin addiction. In the end she overcomes this adversity by accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and building a personal relationship with him. It was a beautiful book that I found and read myself as a tenager..
