A thick, yummy pumpkin smoothie recipe that tastes like your mom’s almost-famous pumpkin pie, only colder, healthier, and in a glass.
It’s officially fall… YAY! I love all things fall, especially all those warm, rich pumpkin recipes.
If you love thick, creamy, and healthy smoothies, and pumpkin as much as I do, then this pumpkin smoothie recipe is for you! It tastes just like your mom’s pumpkin pie, only colder, and in a glass. Yum, yum!
I’ve been playing around with this recipe for a while now, and finally feel like I nailed it. It’s got a great combination of sweet, savory, and exotic flavors. The coconut milk is a great, creamy base; the banana gives it a thickness; the egg yolk provides protein and extra umami; and the pecans give it that nutty, homemade pumpkin pie taste we all love so much.
Finally, in this pumpkin smoothie, the added spices and maple syrup let the true pumpkin flavor shine!
Here’s a quick video tutorial: how to make a pumpkin pie smoothie
Here is the recipe for an individual meal or two snack-sized portions of this healthy pumpkin smoothie.
Pumpkin Smoothie Ingredients
One of the best things about this pumpkin smoothie is that most of the ingredients are pantry staples (at least they are in my house!), so you won’t have to make a trip to the store to buy anything specifically for this recipe.
- 1 cup frozen pumpkin puree (where to buy). (Once I open a can, I freeze the pumpkin in ice cube trays.)
- 1 frozen banana (be sure to unpeel your bananas before you freeze them!)
- 1 cup coconut milk (where to buy) (You could also use raw milk or almond milk, if you prefer.)
- 2 TB pecans (find out why it’s important to soak nuts and seeds.)
- 1 1/2 TB of real maple syrup (where to buy), raw honey or 20 drops of stevia
- 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie seasoning (where to buy)
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract (where to buy)
- Dash of sea salt (where to buy)
- 1 pastured egg yolk (optional)
- For more protein, you can also add our Mama Natural Multi Collagen Protein! (optional)
Pumpkin Smoothie Directions
This pumpkin smoothie couldn’t be easier to make. With the help of a blender, it comes together in mere minutes. Since there are some frozen components, I recommend using a powerful commercial-grade blender, but any blender will do—it just might take a few extra minutes to really get the smoothie nice and creamy.
- Pour 1 cup of coconut milk into a blender.
- Chop up your frozen banana and add to the milk.
- Blend till smooth and creamy.
- Add in ½ of your frozen pumpkin puree, as well as all of your spices.
- Blend till smooth and creamy.
- Add the other ½ of the frozen pumpkin puree.
- Blend till smooth and creamy.
- Add egg yolk and pecans.
- Blend till smooth and creamy.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
