When did you realize you were really in labor?

My water breaking was my first sign of labor. It took me a while to figure out if I had peed myself or if my water broke, but after a big gush I knew!

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Probably everyone telling me “no need to be a hero, just use the drugs” all throughout my pregnancy. It was frustrating how many people want to push their opinions! During birth itself, the pushing stage was most challenging due to an anterior lip.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Honestly, the Mama Natural course! I used tons of other resources but this course was most helpful.

What surprised you about your birth?

Lots! Pooping during the pushing was definitely not a pleasant surprise, even though I knew it was likely!

I felt so prepared and confident because of the Mama Natural Birth Class. I felt ready for each step of labor and delivery.

What pain relief strategies worked best?

Surprisingly I felt most comfortable on all fours. I labored on my hands and knees in my shower at home and got to 8cm. Then on the way to the birthing center and for the rest of the labor, my husband massaged my back and that was super relieving.

What position did you end up delivering in?

I ended up on my back in bed with my legs pulled up to my chest since I had an anterior lip and then my baby had shoulder dystocia so my legs went up over my head for the final push to get him out.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

No words can describe the feeling but relief and pure joy were definitely felt.
