Wow that is awesome! I spent 4 months in China. Their food is much different than the US too, but in a good way. It is nothing like the food in the “Chinese restaurants” here in the US. They seem to inherently know that certain foods are bad for you and tend to eat pretty balanced foods. I spent most of my time in Beijing and they do eat a lot of seafood and meat and are not afraid to use animal fat!

American living in Japan, here! It was fun watching the grocery haul video- I love all the stuff you guys got, especially kabocha and hijiki! Hijiki seaweed is super good for you too, with lots of good vitamins and minerals. :)
And another fun fact about the vending machines here- in the winter time you can get those bottles of tea nice and hot from the machine, along with hot coffee drinks or hot cans of drinkable soups!

Genevieve! I’m surprised you didn’t check out Kombu at the Japanese market. It’s very good for you and so great for making soup bases or even adding to beans. I add a couple strips to organic pink beans or black beans along with an onion and a few cloves of garlic in the slow cooker to make refried beans afterward, also use it to make my own “clean” miso soups. I typically use Eden brand which may not be available at Japanese markets so much as it is at health food stores. lol loved it!
I’m a big sushi eater and love the yakisoba noodles as well. We also eat rice and tuna balls wrapped in nori, so yummy! My favorite drink is green tea.
