Helicopter Parenting – MNGames #3

August 2, 2012

It’s time for the next event in the Mama Natural Games: Helicopter Parenting.

The objective of this event is to hover as closely as you can to your child, without touching them. It takes great agility, a sharp eye, and, some would say, a compulsive fear of the real world.

Hey MamaNatural :) Ok, so I have a question that doesn’t really have to do with this post (not sure where I was suppose to post it)

My hubby and I are trying to get pregnant, and my doctor told me I couldn’t eat anything raw, including the raw honey I use. I use my honey to make bread, bagels, my granola etc.

Do you have any tips on how to still eat healthy? And did you still eat raw foods??

HELP :)

my family and i follow WAPF and from there, i would recommend: tropical traditions raw organic honey: http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/organic_raw_honey.htm
you can also read about the actual health benefits to you and your family: http://www.seedsforchangewellness.com/ArticleHealingPowerOfRawHoney.html

Strange. I’ve never heard of a doctor saying no raw.I would minimize raw veggies though as they can be hard to digest. Raw fruits are wonderful though.

Have you been trying for awhile to get pregnant? Just wondering what prompted your doctor to make these recommendations.

Genevieve- My friend had mentioned to me that I can’t eat raw honey while pregnant, which I thought was strange, and when I asked my doctor, she told me that I shouldn’t eat it even if I’m using it in cooking :( We just started trying, and I am pretty young so not sure why she would suggest that.

Yeah I’m an RD and I can’t think of why she would of said no raw anything. Usual recommendations include no unpasteurized cheese and to heat deli meats to steaming (because of listeria), but unless you’ve got some serious immunocompromised conditions (in which pregnancy itself would most likely be contraindicated) I can’t imagine why she would of said this. Maybe you misheard something? I would ask for further clarification and do your own research about any potential risks.
