Products & Reviews

As natural mamas, we want to clean our homes without harming our health. I remember cleaning my first apartment after college and having to open the windows because I felt dizzy. Little did I know at the time it was from all of those toxic fumes!

Fast-forward to today, there’s a whole slew of natural cleaners on the market for those who want to avoid inhaling all of the nasty stuff. But mamas, they’re EXPENSIVE!

That’s why I love these DIY products that offer the best clean without hurting your health or pocketbook. There are no harsh fumes, chemicals or toxins. The ingredients are natural, accessible and affordable.

Most makeup is toxic – loaded with harsh fragrances, dyes, and chemicals. But just because we’re natural mamas, it doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a little glamour. Watch the video above to see what’s in my makeup bag.

My Nighttime Routine

July 24, 2012

I think it’s fascinating to read about other people’s nighttime routines… like Kandee Johnson’s fun and detailed one.

I’ve been asked several times about what I do and I thought I would share my little ritual.

For me, the greatest gift of Christmas is the birth of Christ. The wonder and joy of the season makes it one of my favorite times of the year.

When it comes to holiday shopping, I used to buy elaborate gifts for others with the tacit agreement that they would do the same for me. At the end of the Christmas, I would often end up feeling sad and disappointed because my expectations weren’t met. (I cringe admitting this.)

Since then, I’ve learned to buy gifts for others without strings attached. When I’m about to purchase a gift, I think to myself “if the other person doesn’t buy me anythingin return, would I be OK with that?” I’m happy to say that most of the time the answer is YES! This sort of thinking has helped me not only stop buying ridiculously lavish gifts, but to also tap into the joy of giving without expectation of return.

Just as importantly, I buy myself a few treats during the holiday time. (As my mom says “one for them, two for me” :) Not only does this make me feel happy but it also helps me stop expecting so much from others. My proverbial cup is already overflowing, so I don’t need others fill it (not like they can any way). And mamas, you don’t need to spend a lot to make this happen. It can be as simple as buying yourself a warm milk steamer with nutmeg and whip cream. Or a new pair of fleece sweatpants.

Thankfully, the older I get, the less I need or want “stuff.” Griffin has a much better wardrobe than me BY FAR… and I wouldn’t have it any other way :) .

As the days get shorter and the nights colder, we move our attention indoors. It’s time for trying out new recipes, reading intriguing novels, and finding creative ways to stay active.

One way to keep the holidays from hitting your thighs is to jump on a rebounder. Not familiar with rebounding? Think mini trampoline – and one of the best all-around exercises out there. NASA called rebounding a more effective exercise than running. And it’s way easier on the joints.
